Llahuar and The Fure Waterfalls

We'll pick you up from your hotel in Arequipa in the morning around 4:00am and we'll depart in tourist-class bus. Our destination is Condor's Cross, Colca Canyon's most famous lookout, from where we'll be able to appreciate the canyon's depth and grandeur. Here we'll enjoy our packed breakfast.

Afterwards we'll continue on to one of the most traditional towns of the canyon, Cabanaconde (3287m), about fifteen minutes away, place where the residents still cultivate the area in pre-Incan terraces.

We'll enjoy our lunch in Cabanaconde before beginning our descent into the canyon. It's a 5 hour trek through majestic canyon ecosystems to Llahuar. Nearby we'll be able to watch the Colca Valley geysers. At Llahuar we'll rest and you'll have the opportunity to fish for trout and enjoy the natural hot springs.

We'll spend the night in Llahuar community, staying with local families in their homes.

After the breakfast our adventure continues with a 3 hour trek to Llatica village (2438m), where we'll rest before complete the final hour, arriving at Fure Oasis (2758m). During the hike we'll enjoy impressive views of the canyon scenery as well as the daily life of its residents, whom we'll be able to see going with their day occupied with activities such as the collection of cochineal. We'll have lunch at Fure. In the afternoon we'll visit the Huaruro Waterfalls and marvel at the waters falling 150m. If you want we can fish in the Huaruro River as well. After our excursion we'll return to Fure, where we will spend the night and rest in our rustic bungalows.

We'll begin our day with a nutritious breakfast before beginning the trek to Sangalle Oasis, so-called because of its tropical climate and warm-water pool surrounded by palms and flowers. At this point we'll have free time to relax in the pool or descend further, to the powerful Cocla River, the geological force which carved the canyon. We'll enjoy our lunch in Sangalle before beginning our hike again, ascending along a highly scenic route to Cabanaconde (3287m), the small town where we'll have our dinner. We'll spend the night in a local hotel with private bathroom and hot water.

On our final day we'll have breakfast at 6:00am before boarding the bus to Chivay, stopping enroute at different points of interest such as Choquetico Lookout, where the pre-Inca carving known as the Choquetico Model Stone precisely diagrams the terrain and the terracing of the canyon's opposite site, and Antahuilque Lookout, which offers a striking view of the lakes below. We'll have lunch in Chivay and you'll have time to explore a bit or visit the La Calera Hot Springs if you wish. (This is an optional excursion; admission to the hot springs is not included in the tour price.) We should arrive back in the city of Arequipa around 5:00pm and you'll be dropped off at your hotel.
