Itinerary of Full Ecoaventuras

Day 1- Puerto Maldonado - Rural Biking - Night Walk

We’ll meet you at the Puerto Maldonado airport or bus station upon your arrival and then along the Madre de Dios River towards our lodge Ecoaventuras Amazónicas. During the trip we will see some settlers as well as the typical cultivations or rice, plantain, fisheries. There are many different bird species which you will be able to spot, among them water birds such as the showy crowned herons, Jabiru storks, and kingfishers. Trees and colorful plants, including venus flytraps, populate the riverside.

Ecoaventuras Amazónicas is a lodge of 5 double and/or triple rooms which provides comfortable lodging in harmony with the surrounding environment. We’ll have a brief introductory course about our work with the communities of the Cachuela in an ecotourism project, unique in its type, as well as the generals of the inn and the paths, before proceeding towards our afternoon activity.

On this day, we’ll embark on a riverside biking trip through the Amazon’s rural cultivations. Along the way, you’ll see a variety of local plants, including pineapples, plantains, guava, pacae (ice-cream bean), soursop, mamey, huito (marmalade box), coconuts, copoazu (a relative of cacao with a pear flavor with hints of bananas), sapote fruit, breadfruit trees, and pijuayo (peach palms). We’ll also be able to spot a variety of migratory birds during the trip.

We’ll go for an entirely different walk once the sun begins to set, as the jungle changes greatly in the night. This will allow us to experience the sights and sounds of the nocturnal Amazon, from its noisy insects to its owls to- if we’re lucky- the world’s only nocturnal monkey, the musmuqui (Peruvian Red-necked Owl Monkey).

We’ll have dinner at the lodge and spend the night in bungalows.

Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2 - Parrot Clay Lick - Kayaking - Night Walk

We’ll wake up very early on this day, at 4:15am, to visit the Parrot Clay Lick along the riverside. At this early hour, when the rainforest begins to wake, the trip itself is quite magical. These are walls along which dozens to hundreds of parrots and macaws (up to 7 different species) gather to feed upon the clay, which contains minerals that allow the birds to detoxify from any unripe fruit or seeds that they’ve eaten. They also socialize and find mates at these sites. One can only witness this colorful spectacle in the first hours of the morning. The trip will last approximately 2 hours.

After lunch, we’ll switch from legs to arms as we enter the river for some kayaking. You’ll receive prior instruction, and it will be at a low level of difficulty, and thus you will be able to enjoy this activity even if you’ve never done it before.

We’ll spend the night in bungalows at the ecolodge.

Day 3 - Zip Line - Canopy - Puerto Maldonado

On your final day in the Peruvian Amazon, we’ll tackle almost 600ft of Zip Line! This exciting activity will make you feel like a bird swooping through the Amazon’s canopy. Amidst the zip lines, we’ll also take a high-altitude walk along a hanging bridge, which will allow you to observe species that reside in the high treetops of the rainforest’s canopy, such as toucans and geckos, which you could never see or hear walking along the tree trunks.

We’ll have breakfast at the lodge before departing for Puerto Maldonado, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel or at the airport, in time to catch your flight to Lima or Cusco.
