Witness the stunning diversity of Manu Biosphere Reserve as we descend several ecological floors from the high Andes through Cloud and Dwarf Forests to finally arrive in the Rainforest, share in activities with the native Huacaria tribe and learn about life in the jungle, observe the sounds and colors of the creatures which call the jungle home, and most importantly, take back with you unforgettable memories
We will leave very early from Cusco, first we will visit the Chullpas or pre-Inca cemetery of the archaeological site of Ninamarca. We will also make a stop in the picturesque colonial town of Paucartambo, considered as the folkloric center of the region. The next stop will be at the Abra Acjanacu (3,530 masl) from where we can have our first view of the Amazon. Acjanacu, also serves as an entry point to the biodiversity of the Manu, we will descend through different ecological levels from the high Andean plateaus to the humid and cloudy forest, along this route we will be able to observe a great variety of flora and fauna, this includes orchids, tree ferns, butterflies, monkeys, variety of birds, toucans among many other species.
The cloud forest is the habitat of the emblematic cock of the rocks, the national bird of Peru, of which we will visit its site of communal courtship, where the males of this colorful and spectacular bird defend their domains of other males and begin their ritual, swinging , jumping and making sounds designed to attract the attention of the females.
The cloud forest is also home to the spectacled bear, the last short-faced bear in South America. We will spend the night in a typical and comfortable hostel in the middle of the forest. (Lunch and dinner)
The second day we will continue after breakfast by bus to the port of Atalaya, in the course we can appreciate some birds and coca leaf plantations (sacred plant of the Incas).
At the port of Atalaya we will board our boat and sail to our lodge for about 30 minutes.
In the lodge we will be able to accommodate ourselves, have lunch, explore the area and we will have a nocturnal walk for the identification of insects and some nocturnal animals.
The third day of our adventure in the Manu we will start it very early to appreciate a colorful show in one of the collpas of the place, the clay clay walls where every morning different types of parrots and macaws are directed to extract the minerals that are necessary in your daily diet.
After appreciating this show we will go by boat to the Machu Wasi lagoon (old house) which we will walk for an approximate of 1 hour being able to observe a great variety of birds, monkeys, reptiles, dwarf alligators and insects.
In the afternoon we will return to the lodge to have lunch and relax.
At night there will be a nocturnal walk in search of more nocturnal animals.
This is the last of our adventure and we will start it with a delicious farewell breakfast from the hostel, by boat we will go to the port of Atalaya where we will be waiting for the bus that will bring us back to the city of Cusco where we will arrive between 06:00 to 07:00 pm
